Biography

Guy Smith is the Managing Partner of Crow & Smith, LLP, where he provides experienced, client-focused representation in criminal defense, family law, and military justice.

Guy earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Tulane University Law School. He graduated from Williams College in 2005, where he was the Captain of the Men's Ice Hockey Team. Before graduating from law school, Guy attended Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He served on active duty for 10 years where he was a military prosecutor, defense counsel, and Battalion Judge Advocate with 1st Battalion, 5th Marines.

Over the course of his military career, Guy gained broad experience defending Marines and Sailors accused of misconduct. While criminal defense is his passion, Guy has also prosecuted crimes in the military and has represented the interests of Commanders and the Marine Corps by providing them timely and accurate legal advice, primarily in criminal and administrative law. Guy is a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and presently serves as the Reserve Staff Judge Advocate for 2d Marine Logistics Group aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

In his civilian practice, Guy focuses on criminal defense in State and Federal Courts as well as domestic legal matters including child custody and divorce. He also offers specialized legal services in military matters to include Court-Martial defense, administrative separation proceedings, officer misconduct, and correction of military records. In Federal Court, he is a Criminal Justice Act (CJA) panel attorney in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. In State Court, he is a dedicated advocate for clients accused of everything from low-level misdemeanors to serious felonies.

Before founding Crow & Smith, LLP, Guy was a partner at Greene, Wilson, Crow & Smith, P.A. in New Bern, NC. Guy is admitted to practice in both North Carolina and Massachusetts. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Allies for Cherry Point's Tomorrow.
